We are each on our own journey. Each of us is on our very own adventure;  encountering all kinds of challenges, and the choices we make on that adventure will shape us as we go; these choices will stretch us, test us and push us to our limit; And our adventure will make us stronger then  we ever know we could be.

Causes of PTSD/Trauma

dENVER TRAUMA THERAPY PTSD

PTSD/Trauma can come in many shapes and forms.  Many of us are used to thinking of trauma as those big events like going to a war, experiencing natural disasters and terrorist attacks, or surviving domestic/relationship violence and sexual or physical abuses.  In fact, trauma can be anything that has caused you to lose your peace of mind and your ability to function effectively and be who you want to be.

Lack of physical and emotional consistency and stability in our living environment growing up, and losing a job, a loved one, health, possessions or anything that is valuable to us, can all have a impact on our well – beings.  Going through a separation and a divorce, being betrayed by a partner or an important person in your life can also cause lasting psychological and emotional consequences. Theses losses can also have an impact in our ability to trust others, the world, and ourselves. Without trust, it is hard to function and move forward.

Traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies: The past is alive in the form of gnawing interior discomfort. Their bodies are constantly bombarded by visceral warning signs, and, in an attempt to control these processes, they often become expert at ignoring their gut feelings and in numbing awareness of what is played out inside. They learn to hide from their selves.

Regardless of the situations or the triggers, the causes are usually found in the past experiences. Therefore, they prevent us from becoming the person we want to be, getting the relationship that we want, and having the life that brings happiness.  As humans, we need emotions to inform us what we want and what is missing.  However, having long lasting experiences of guilt, rage, fear, anxiety due to our past can do more harm than good.

What Happens After Experiencing Trauma?

When our mind and body function properly, they operate like a digestive system. That means the mind and the body will “digest” unhealthy information from our experiences and keep helpful, useful ones in our system to help us continue to grow and expand.  Unfortunately, negative experiences can also remained unresolved and cause our systems to be “stuck” and malfunctioned.  The inability to properly “digest” and “extract” from our experience can cause more and more problems in our day-to-day functioning.  We need extra assistance! Fortunately, trauma can be healed, and we can be transformed!

What Can Help?

DENVER EMDRTRAUMA THERAPY PTSD

In the center, our founder,  YY Wei, LCSWuses two powerful, evidenced–based PTSD/trauma therapy modalities, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SPI) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), to help her clients unstuck their systems and move forward. The combination of these two PTSD/trauma therapy approaches helps clients process their upsetting stories and experiences. Any related memories, emotions, beliefs, body responses/sensations, movements, and thoughts can be transformed into more helpful and adaptive resources and skills.

What Can Happen?

Through PTSD/trauma therapy, you can learn to listen to the unspoken messages and unlock the wisdom in your mind and body.  You will be able to track and release incomplete responses.  Those incomplete responses can be verbal, physical, emotional, body movements, and/or internal sensations. By not stopping the natural responses from your body and connecting its messages with your mind, you allow your mind and body to do what they needed to do to achieve its goal of helping and healing. That mind – body connection heals our wounds and makes us more complete.

Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is
by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.
