What Is Mutual Masturbation?
Mutual masturbation is when two or more people self-pleasure side by side or near each other. Those involved can be acting completely independently of each other or interacting and assisting each other. It can benefit us and our partners in so many ways! Mutual Masturbation allows us to learn about our turn-ons, create more time for foreplay, watch our partner in action, and intensify pleasure for each other in the long run.
What Does It Look Like?
Mutual Masturbation can look however you want it to! Just like all other types of intimacy, it’s up to those involved to communicate and coordinate pleasure with each other. Mutual Masturbation can be intense and intentional or it can be slow, involved, and exploratory. Imagine you and your partner touching each other in different areas of the body, talking about what feels good, why, and what could feel better. Watching your partner touch themselves can be a huge turn-on too!
One of the things that creates intimacy and trust within mutual masturbation is that we usually masturbate by ourselves. It’s a special experience for a partner to let us in on that part of themselves. A partner allowing us to watch them, with or without assisting, builds trust and comfort. If you’re not especially comfortable with the idea of mutual masturbation, that’s okay and normal! Whether it’s anxiety or just plain first-time nerves, it’s okay.
Try to view mutual masturbation as an opportunity. It allows you to ease into the “main event” depending on what you and your partner are aiming for. Mutual masturbation can help “chunk” foreplay and take things slowly. Slow stimulation can help put us at ease and can be incredibly intimate.
Using Toys for Touch
If you want to change up your mutual masturbation, toys are always a great option! Whether you use a toy solely for yourself or one designed for both you and your partner, sometimes they just hit spots that we can’t with our hands and bodies. Picking out toys together is also a great way to promote foreplay, intimacy, and education regarding each other’s bodies, needs, and desires.
