Making Intentional Time In Your Relationship
Being Intentional
Relationships don’t become amazing or stay amazing without work and intentionality. Once the new relationship energy fades, it's important to purposefully make time for things that were originally second nature.
Relationships are dynamic and subject to change, so it’s important to stay attentive to each other in the midst of all of the changes life throws at you.
So when life throws too much at you, what can you do to create time and space for each other when it feels impossible?
1. Schedule a regular date night and take turns planning it. There’s nothing more meaningful than initiating and putting effort into something for your partner and the planning should not be put on one person.
2. Always come home with enough energy for a conversation before bed.
3. Do things that make you happy so you can bring positivity back home with you to your partner and relationship.
4. Understand that life and relationships are fluid. When things get hard keep going, keep being intentional, and keep loving each other through it.
5. Create time without phones before bed.
6. Empathize with your partner, try to understand their perspective, and act accordingly.
7. Be transparent! In the time you’ve spent being upset about something, you and your partner could have talked about it and possibly have been enjoying time together by now. Resentment kills positivity and motivation in your relationship.
8. Being affectionate with each other is an easy way to be intentional about being close while not extending too much energy. Holding hands, resting your hand on your partner, hugging them in passing, etc. these are all easy ways to let your partner know you’re thinking about them.
